Release Your Inhibitions - Get Into a State of Allowing

This may not be a very pretty picture because you get to see my feet. But there’s a good reason for showing you this. ⠀

Lately, I’ve been taking walks barefoot on grass in my neighborhood parks and outside my office building before I start work in the morning.

Why? Because my body is telling me I need to do it. (Here in Southern California it’s been about 70 degrees Fahrenheit – 20 Celsius!)

I wear no shoes, partly because I’ve been thinking about the benefits of making direct connection with the Earth, also known as Earthing. I’ve also been a bit envious watching my son running and playing around the playground barefoot.

I’ve been a city girl for most of my life; walking around shoeless is so strange, so unnatural, a little embarrassing and just so...dirty and yucky!

But my son looks so free and happy -- he makes being barefoot look so appealing. I thought, why can’t I do the same? Well, of course I can!

Mood Booster

This practice has become a walking meditation for me. The soles of my feet get cool and even a little numb some days from the cold wet grass, but it feels oddly satisfying. With the sun shining and warming my body, it’s such a refreshing way to start my day.

What caught my attention this morning was how the sunlight glistened on the dew-covered grass. Beauty was right in front of me. My mood was immediately lifted. I was awake and felt grounded and grateful. Creativity rushed in, sparking new ideas.⠀

“There are too many inhibitions imposed on us by OURSELVES and the society.”

Here’s some of what I’ve learned from going barefoot:

  • Notice what your body and soul need and go do it.

  • There are too many inhibitions imposed on us by OURSELVES and the society.

  • You can FREE yourself from the restrictions you put on yourself. Don’t worry about what others think; it’s not their business.

  • You are in control of your body and actions. ALLOW yourself to BE.

  • Please yourself. Why? Because joy and happiness make you feel good.⠀

  • Pay attention to the small beautiful things around you. They are soul-nourishing.⠀

Think about how some of this can be applied in your daily life. I know being a working parent means you have to juggle so much between family responsibilities and work. Pay attention to what your body and your soul are telling you, then take steps to meet your needs. ⠀

“Ask yourself, what are you not allowing yourself to do?”

You may be saying to yourself: “I want to but I have no choice. I have no time...”⠀

If you are thinking that, ask yourself: “Is it true you have no choice or no time? What’s standing in your way? Is it you or others?”

Connect with yourself now. Ask yourself, what are you not allowing yourself to do? What are you willing to do about it? Can you tiny steps today to get it started?

Keep it simple. Keep it small.
